Repairs on Illinois exit ramp start Monday, will cause EB PSB lane closures on both sides of the river

The Illinois Department of Transportation said drivers should expect significant traffic delays when the work begins on July 15.

ST. LOUIS — Repairs to an exit ramp from eastbound Interstate 55/64 to southbound Illinois Route 3 will cause road closures and delays for drivers starting next week.

The Illinois Department of Transportation said the closures will start on July 15 and are expected to reopen by July 29.

The Illinois closures and traffic changes are:

  • The exit ramp to southbound Illinois Route 3 will be closed.
  • The eastbound Poplar Street Bridge into Illinois will have three lanes open.
  • At the 64/55 split, the right lane will be closed, but three other lanes will be open.
  • The southbound Tudor Avenue ramp will also be closed.

To help with the flow of traffic, there will also be multiple traffic changes on the Missouri side of the river. Those changes include:

  • The right lane of northbound Interstate 55 will be closed starting at the Marion Street entrance ramp.
  • The Marion Street entrance ramp will also be closed.
  • Only one lane of the northbound I-55 ramp to the Poplar Street Bridge will be open.
  • Eastbound I-64 will be down to two lanes from the 6th Street ramp to the Poplar Street Bridge.

IDOT expects the closure to cause significant traffic delays, so they suggested alternate routes including the I-70 Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.
