ST CHARLES, Mo. — Rising waters continue to be a concern in St. Charles County as more rain is expected over the next few days. Several neighborhoods have already flooded, and some homeowners fear theirs could be next.
The rush of water into Deerfield Village mobile home park is causing a major headache for homeowners in St. Charles.
"It's getting to be as bad as '93," resident Nancy Williams said.
Mother Nature has forced people to leave or fight to save their homes as flood waters continue to pour into the area.
"It was getting too high and we were afraid that it was going to get to the floor," Williams said.
All over the park, people have placed sandbags around their houses to keep the water out while others have walked through the rising river to salvage any items they can.
"I've seen rafts. They've brought their boats in. They're just making the most of it," Williams said.
The flooding has torn Sammy McDaniel’s family apart.
"I walk in my house, and both toilets are overflowing, and it's going out my backdoor," McDaniel said.
He's concerned about his dying wife being near the rising river and worried about the future of his community.
"I'm not bringing her back here because I don't know how much feces I got in my house," he said. "I feel sorry for this park because I don't feel it'll ever be the same after this."
St. Charles County officials said Wednesday the water level has dropped about five inches in the mobile home park. They expect that level to hold for a few days and then to start dropping again on Saturday.
