ST. LOUIS — The River Des Peres started seeping onto Carondelet Boulevard near Interstate 55 early Friday morning.
Emergency crews responded to the street in the Carondelet neighborhood at 2:30 a.m.
Water started leaking through the massive sandbags that are lined up along the street acting as a barrier between the swollen river and the street.
Several dump trucks filled with gravel lined the street Friday morning while a front loader piled additional sandbags and gravel along the wall.
Crews said it's been leaking for a few days, so they needed to reinforce the sandbags to help hold them in place.
Crews told 5 On Your Side the river is expected to rise another 6 inches.
Neighbors and drivers in the area might notice water still leaking through the sandbags. Crews said that's perfectly normal as long as the water is clear. But once dirt starts coming out as well, that’s cause for concern. Right now, the water seeping from the sandbags is normal because the ground is completely saturated.
Crews will continue to monitor river levels since more rain is expected this weekend.
