ST. LOUIS — A driver was able to escape their car before it went underwater in River Des Peres.
Emergency crews responded to the report of a car in the river at Loughborough Avenue. This is on the western side of the river, along the edge of the city-county line.
The view from Sky5 showed tire tracks in the grass leading down into the river. There was no vehicle visible in the water.
The preliminary report from police is that a vehicle hit a pole and then went into the river.
However, the driver was able to get out before the car went under, St. Louis police said. To their knowledge, no one else was trapped inside.
Police do not know whether the driver suffered any injuries.
River Des Peres is especially high right now due to flooding in the St. Louis area.
This is a developing story and will be updated when 5 On Your Side confirms more information.
