ST. LOUIS – The US Marshal’s Office identified the two federal inmates who escaped from the Lincoln County Jail.
Kurt Wallace and James Flannel escaped from the jail Monday night and carjacked a person in Troy, Missouri and sped away. The St. Ann Police Department said they joined St. Charles County police in a chase when it entered their jurisdiction.
The chase ended with a crash near the intersection of Interstates 170 and 70 around 9:30 p.m. Police said one of the men ran off, but police were able to catch him. The other man was able to crawl away from the car, but he was also arrested.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the two improvised a makeshift saw from broken parts of an electric hair clipper, which was used to weaken a metal restraining bar that was later ripped from the cell wall. A deputy coming into the jail saw the damage Monday night and placed the jail in a full lockdown.
Wallace is one of the three people charged in the murder and carjacking of Jaz Granderson. Authorities also believe Wallace was involved in other carjackings in 2017.
Flannel was indicted for the carjacking and killing of Boris Iouioukine. Iouioukine was carjacked and murdered on June 25, 2018.
