EUREKA, Mo. — Hurricane Helene caused widespread damage throughout the southeast U.S. after making landfall late Thursday night, but its effects are still being felt across the nation.
Six Flags St. Louis is one such entity facing Helene's remnants, so much so that the park announced it'd be closed Friday night.
"Due to the forecasted rain from Tropical Storm Helene, Six Flags St. Louis will be closed for the evening, September 27," the theme park said in a Facebook post. "Turns out even our freaks don't like this weather!"
The announcement comes exactly two weeks after the park kicked off its annual "Fright Fest" Halloween celebration. This year's event is different from previous years' due to a new chaperone policy mandated by the park.
The chaperone must be at least 21 years old and must present a photo ID with a date of birth at the ticket entry, a social media post made by the park said. The policy is set to take effect on Sept. 13 and will be in effect from 6 p.m. to park close on Fright Fest nights.
"The safety of our guests and associates has always been our top priority," the post said. "One chaperone must accompany no more than 10 guests age 15 or younger per day and must accompany their party during entry, remain inside the park during their visit, and be available by phone throughout their stay."
