ST. LOUIS — A handful of local ballot measures will be decided Tuesday in the 2023 municipal elections in Missouri.
The most watched race will likely be the proposed Manchester annexation and multiple cities will be deciding if they will add a 3% tax to recreational marijuana.
Here are the ballot measures to know about for Tuesday.
Manchester annexation
After a four-year campaign, the City of Manchester will find out if it is adding about 6,500 more residents on Tuesday night. The issue will be on the ballot for current residents of Manchester as well as the people who live in the portion of unincorporated St. Louis County.
Proposition A would need to pass by a simple majority in both Manchester and the proposed annexation area.
Recreational marijuana taxes
Three cities have marijuana taxes on the ballot Tuesday.
Arnold, St. John and St. Charles asked voters to consider adding an additional 3% sales tax to recreational marijuana. Those sales taxes would be in addition to state and county taxes on adult-use recreational marijuana.
In St. John and St. Charles, the tax proposal is called Proposition M, and in Arnold, it is called Proposition 1.
The stacking taxes are currently the subject of a legal battle.
Rockwood School District Proposition 3
Rockwood School District officials said that Proposition 3 would provide debt-free resources for facilities, technology and safety without increasing the tax rate.
The proposition would allow the district to use some of the funds they already receive from taxpayers on capital projects like technology and security upgrades. The money will be allocated from the portion that was set aside for debt service.
The proposition requires a simple majority to pass.
Ladue sales tax
Proposition F in Laude would impose a half-cent sales tax in the city to help fund the Ladue Fire Department. It requires a simple majority to pass.
